NJ Farmers Against Hunger Raise Funds At Christmas Tree Farm
Phillipsburg, NJ - November , 20 2011 - New Jersey Farmers Against Hunger and Perfect Christmas Tree Farm are brewing good manners in young minds at a La-De-Da Tea for children ages 6-12. While sharing hot chocolate and tea, tea sandwiches and fancy cakes, in the formal dining room of the 18th century farm-house, children learn consideration, kindness and respect. Story-telling in front of the fire in the Colonial kitchen reinforces the message of good manners.
The La-De-Da Tea is a one day event, Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011. Perfect Christmas Tree Farm, 999 US 22, Phillipsburg NJ host this fundraiser for New Jersey Farmers Against Hunger. Three sessions, each accommodating 15, give children the opportunity to experience social graces and polite phrases, courtesy and sharing, preparing them to do well in formal situations. Each 90 minute session, 10 AM to 11:30 AM, 12:30 to 2:00 PM and 3:00 to 4:30 PM includes party hats and dress-up costumes, story-telling and crafts, and a hayride, in addition to tempting refreshments. A flower arranging class for parents, taught by Kris Guttadora, runs concurrently.
Admission to the LA-De-Da Tea is $15.00 for children, and $20.00 for parents participating in the floral workshop. All profits benefit Farmer Against Hunger, a 15-year-old 501(3)c non-profit organization, affiliated with the NJ Agricultural Society. Farmers Against Hunger operates year round, collecting and harvesting fields of produce donated by farmers and distributing it for free to the needy. “Fresh produce is often lacking in the diets of people experiencing food-insecurity. Our recipients are so grateful to receive fresh fruits and vegetables for their families”, says Kristina Guttadora, Program Director for Farmers Against Hunger. Farmers Against Hunger developed this nutrition program to serve children, seniors and the working poor. Cynthia Curtis, owner of Perfect Christmas Tree Farm delights in hosting the event. ''The formal dining room setting inspires children to behave well. They learn good manners from each other, as they pass tempting food around the table and share. It is all designed for children to have fun as they learn,'' she says. Regarding NJ Farmers Against Hunger, she adds, ''I am very impressed with their simple mission of not wasting food and feeding the needy.''
